Urban skimboarding: When it floods go skim

When it rains and you see a puddle just know you could skimboard in that puddle. Due to some epic rain storms team rider Casey Gackle and our photographer/social media guru Matt McDonald both skimmed in the streets last weekend.

Flooded Tacoma

Last weekend at Go Skate Tacoma it rained and rained until the streets started flooding. People kept skateboarding in puddles a bit and someone yelled we need to skim this! Naturally Matt realized he was the person who should do it and gave his camera to our sales rep Ian Hilger and tested out the streets and started to skim down a hill making it about 20 feet at the longest skim.

Birch Bay Skimboard Demo

Meanwhile, a few hours away Casey Gackle, Tyler Myers and Bobby Bruce were putting on a skim demo in Birch Bay. The weather was not very good there also, so attendance and moral were a bit low. As the crew left Birch Bay to head back to Tacoma they saw some flooded streets and Casey did not hesitate to test out the skim with Tyler capturing a photo.
"Urban skimboarding” is a gimmick, but it is fun, and people who know nothing about skimboarding are blown away when they see it. Keep in mind skimboarding on the streets will destroy the bottom of your skimboard and if it hits a curb it could be worse. We have skimmed on flooded football fields, golf courses and anything you can think of and that is the beauty of skimboarding. With just a little bit of water and a flat surface you can put that skimboard to work. We would love to see your photos from a urban skimboarding session and feel free to send them over to info@dbskimboards.com, so we can take a look!
