The Pacific Ocean is in San Diego, so there is a ton of skim spots. At high tide a skimboarder is limited though. We took a few minutes to talk with team rider Lexi Hutchings in San Diego to checkout her tide-invicible skim spot in Ocean Beach.

Q. How’s the skimboarding at this spot?

A. In San Diego, the skim is great! I have to pay more attention to the tides, which I never had to worry about tin Utah, but the plus is you can skim all year around.

Q. What are the best tides for this skim spot?
A. Low tides are usually best for most the beaches to skim. I like to skim at the dog beaches because I have found they have very large sand bars at low tide. This makes for epic skim. Also, I have been fortunate enough to find a place along the jetty (where we took these photos) that is usually always decent, even at high tide...

Q. Who can you find skimboarding there?
A. Usually beginners, hah or lots of people always ask to try it. I always skim with my good friend Sara from Utah, but you don’t run into many skimmers. There is a small area called Windency Beach, where a lot of ocean skimmers go...

Q. Any unique features that separate this spot from other beaches?

A. DOGS. and they all want to eat, or jump on your board. It’s San Diego so I feel like the beaches are beautiful out here. Coronado beach probably stand out the most...

Q. Anything you need to watch out for? Shells? Glass? Sharks? Bums? Etc?
A. I would say in some areas bums. Ocean beach has some weirdos. Haha.

Q. What are the pro's and con's of this skim spot?
A. Pros is you can skim all year around, usually always nice out, good skim spots. The cons are having to watch tide more often and sometimes beaches are way crowded so it can be hard to skim around all the people in the water.
