We had the opportunity to chat with team rider and Californian skimboarder Adam Balaam who currently resides in San Francisco, California. Adam skimboarders with fellow team rider Dallas Kingsbury at Baker Beach in San Francisco. Learn more about the skim spot below.
How’s the skimboarding at this spot? The skim is good most of the time. A lot of times the stream gets curvy so it takes some digging if you want a straight line. Besides that be ready for any weather, it's Sf baby, cold as shit.
What are the best tides for this skim spot? Any time after 12. The tide rolls out and the stream opens up.
Who can you find skimboarding there? Dallas and I for the most part. A lot of times we get some new comers, but they’re getting keen on the etiquette.
Any unique features that separate this spot from other beaches? Beside the Golden Gate Bridge? Sometimes a sand bank forms that’s perfect for doing drops off of. Most of the time you can find driftwood to slide too.
Anything you need to watch out for? Shells? Glass? Sharks? Bums? Kids, and stuck up Sf parents!! Entitled parents get pretty pissed when they think your getting in their kid’s way. I’d suggest just flashing your box cutter.
What are the pros and cons of this skim spot? This spot has amazing scenery and incredible skim. A lot of times it gets pretty windy and cold so bundle up.
