It's been a beautiful early spring in the Pacific Northwest and the beginning of March was a prime time for a few early skimboarding sessions. Isaac Thomas, Casey Gackle, Richard Docter and crew made the trip to Dumas Bay in Federal Way, Washington for a skimboard session the first weekend of March. Isaac brought down some new features including a giant-kink rail. Minus all of the shells on the beach it was a pretty fun skim session.
Isaac Thomas even tried out the new 2015 Thomas Pro board and threw down along with some of the other guys and everyone enjoyed the new shape quite a bit. It was a super fun skimboarding session to say the least and no one could complain about skimboarding without wetsuit booties in March.
Dumas Bay is a wildlife sanctuary, so there were plenty of Canada Geese and Mallard Ducks flying above the skimboarding session and a Bald Eagle watched all the action from a tree above.
Along with the wildlife flying around there were also a fair amount of dogs taking advantage of the beach. Unfortunately none of the dogs could skimboard.
Overall the crew had a great time at the beach and it was nice for everyone to get their "skim legs" back and prepping for the upcoming season. Be on the lookout for a little bit of video footage from the skimboarding session.
If you are trying to go to Dumas Bay for a skimboard sessions here's some extra information. From the parking area, a short 1/4 mile trail leads down a nice gravel path among Maple and Alder trees to Dumas Bay beach. There you will find excellent wildlife viewing in the air as well as the shore when the tide is out. The shoreline is home to one of the area's largest great blue heron breeding colonies. A few interpretive signs are found throughout the park.
